Giving Gifts Requires Thought

in Thought

There's an old saying that goes "it's the thought that counts." When you think about it, it's really true. If someone gives you a gift, it's certainly nice to get something that you really wanted. But what happens when what you wanted doesn't match up with what someone gave you? And we're not talking about when you get a pair of pants when you really wanted a vacation to several all inclusive resorts in Jamaica. Instead, it's those times when maybe you had your heart set on a new pair of shoes-and your husband gets you a blender instead. While it isn't what you were hoping for, if your husband thought hard about what you might want and settled on the blender, then it's hard to fault him for missing the mark a bit.

In the end, relationships are the most important thing in many people's lives. Things come and go, but the important people in your life are pretty constant and the things you depend on day in and day out. In that case, it's not that all inclusive Caribbean vacation that you should really be worrying about. The more important thing is if you're involved and engaged with those around you that you love. It's this sort of close connection that brings a happy and content feeling every day of your life. The things around you may break, but the bond you form with your inner circle of family and friends should be something that is unbreakable.

If someone gives you a unique gift based on something they know about you or about something they think you might enjoy, that's when you know they really gave it some thought. They've listened to you over the years and realized that while resorts in Jamaica are really nice, what you really wanted was a handmade coffee mug with the purple and green glaze. Sure, going to that resort would sure be fun, but every time you use that coffee mug, you'll remember the person that gave it to you and feel good that they knew enough about you to think of it. Of course, it doesn't have to be a coffee mug. The particular gift is something specific to you, and what your unique tastes and likes are. The next time your birthday rolls around, hopefully you'll be surprised with all sorts of gifts that show you others are putting thought into what they gave you.
