Positive thinking has some how begun to get a bad rap. I believe the new naysayers are wrong.
I started way back with Dr. Norman Vincent Peale and the "Power of Positive Thinking." Positive thinking has helped me through more sour situations than I can count. Why it is suddenly on some folks' blacklist, I have no idea.
You see, we humans think somewhere between 50,000 and 60,000 thoughts per day. Those who studied such things say that most of them are negative thoughts. Let me repeat that: Most of our 50,000+ thoughts each day are negative. What good does that do anyone? None.
I don't know what the percentage might be. I'm sure it would be at least slightly different for each person surveyed. But "most" implies to me more than 50%. So, let's say that almost everyone thinks about 60% negative thoughts. That says to me that our lives are very much slanted toward the negative.
Leaning toward the awful, dreadful and terrible. We gotta do something about that! What to do? Think positive. That was easy, wasn't it? When we are thinking negative we can't possible be believing that we deserve the best. The best doesn't even enter into the equation except as a negative. As in: "I don't deserve ... (whatever) because I am not good enough." "I am not shapely enough." "I'm not smart enough." "I am not fast enough." You get the picture.
The cure is monitoring your thoughts several times during your day. What did you just say to yourself in your head? Was it negative? Then follow it up with a positive thought. Indeed, grab yourself two or more positive thoughts. Whenever you find negative thinking resounding in your mind, repel it with positive thoughts.
Will this change your life? I can say from own perspective that it has changed my life many, many times. When things looked their darkest, I changed them by affirming the positive. The way we think is the way we are. That's ancient wisdom, having nothing to do with me directly. But I pass it along to you at this moment, in case you have forgotten. "As one thinketh, so one is." It has not changed is thousands of years. No amount of nay-saying by some of today's "experts" will change it.
Do yourself a whopping big favor. Think that you deserve the best; think positive thoughts every opportunity you get. Your life will change for the better beginning now.
